Dear Students of Mate8005 and Mate6021:
I am in Denmark on an official visit, and will return on August 23.
Prof. Puhua Guan will be in-charge of the class until then.
More details will be regularly posted at my homepage http://ramanujan.uprrp.edu/
and on the class BLACKBOARD: http://virtual.uprrp.edu
Both classes Mate8005 and Mate6021 are Por Accuerdo,
and to meet and to schedule the classs,
please send an email to me at me at hjanwa@gmail.com,
(with CC: pu2guan@yahoo.com and at pguan@cnnet.upr.edu).
Your email should the dates and times when you have I) classes; II) TA assignment; III) Other regular assignments;
IV) Absolutely can not attend for personal reasons.
===============MATE8021=======================
MATE8025: "Enumerative Combinatorics I":
You can find the list of topics on the Departmental Homepage.
The Textbok will be Richard Stanley, "Enumerative Combinatorics."
I have put a copy of the book on reserve in the library. I will follow it faithfully.

I have taught from this textbook in the past at other universities such as CALTECH, MRI.
The paperback is around $30. Here are the links:

And description at Google Books: http://books.google.com/books

The standard of the course will be similar to that of Mte 8021 with HWs+Project (50% each).
You should all be eligible to take this class.
If you have any doubts on account the formal requisities of Mate 8005,
let me know.
I will emphasize, POSETS, Lattices, generating functions, Moebious Inversion Functions (this a generalization of the Inclusion Exclusion Principle you learned as Under Graduates). I will emphasize more algebraic tools, as thosse are the ones much used now in other subjects such as Group Theory, Knot Theory, representation theory, coding theory, cryptography, complexity theory, computer science, and several areas of Discrete Mathematics. I will give at some point a rapid introduction to some graph theoretical background needed. What will be required is Mathematical Maturity to grasp new concepts. If you have difficult registering in the class on account of missing the Mate 8001 (for example some of you are students with interest in Algebra or Number Theory), let me know.
Please forward this information to your friends and colleagues.
====================================== MATE6021:
Textbooks:
Algebra: A Graduate Course (Mathematics) (Hardcover) I. Martin Isaacs

The book is expensive but you can purchase much cheaper (and even cheape International editions) at www.bestbookbuys.com or www.addall.com, or usedbooks at www.amazon.com
